The City could not have looked more beautiful on our last day, as the sun shone brightly over the canals. It was James’ birthday and bank holiday monday too which made the day extra special.
We spent the morning strolling along the canals and admiring the architecture.
Before we stopped-off for pizza. As a pizza lover, I was particularly excited about this recommendation from my American expat friends – La Perla – in the cool Jordaan district on a cool little cobbled-esq street. The pizza oven is on one side of the street and on the opposite side of the street they have a little cafe.
We ordered the ‘salame crudo piccante artigianale’, which is quite like a diavola. I have a pizza obsession, if I could only eat one food for the rest of my life, it would be pizza – you could have a breakfast pizza with eggs and bacon, and a light one for lunch with rocket and parma ham, and then a diavola for dinner *obvs*.
James enjoyed it too.
We walked off our pizza and headed over to the cheese museum – a highlight of our weekend itinerary – particularly as you got to taste lots of their delicious cheese.
It only takes five minutes to explore – but it was certainly worth the stop!
Of course, we purchased a bunch of cheese that we have dined-off since returning home.
Our trip to Amsterdam, was great fun and we came home with our bellies full. Amsterdam is more than what you naturally assume and serves up some delicious food and beer. The dream mini-break to celebrate James’ birthday. A Dam good time we had.
