Kupa Kupa Barong, Ubud

Our next Indonesian adventure was Ubud – for a little “us” time.

James and I organised all our holiday accommodation through air bnb and Booking.com where we scrolled across Kupa Kupa Barong, in the jungle of Ubud.

We organised to stay in our own private villa with a pool away from everyone else. We were totally secluded. No wonder it’s a hit with honeymooners.

Our Villa was unbelievable. The bed was covered in fresh flowers, lots of water bottles, complimentary mosquito spray and fragrant L’Occitane products – everything for the visiting tourist, including multi-way plugs, complimentary spirits, snacks and a beach bag.

When we weren’t exploring Ubud, we spent out time plunging into this little pool and bathing on the balcony.

Overlooking the jungle and river below.

We even enjoyed lunch on our terrace. The food at Kupa Kupa Barong was great and we got to enjoy some delicious traditional Indonesian dishes including Indonesia curry & nasi goreng (on the right).

With our Villa we had access to 24hr butler service including golf buggy service to travel up, down and around the hotel’s grounds. We may have walked down to our room once or twice but we never braved the steep-looking uphill walk.

This is one of the hotel’s two main pools that everyone can use – the other one is on the rooftop – as not all rooms and villas have private pools.

As you wonder around the hotel grounds you can basque in the beauty of the jungle and find trees harvesting fresh fruit.

The hotel is famous for its jungle-high pond where couples can either make vows or enjoy a romantic candlelight dinner. While we were at the hotel, we witnessed three weddings and three romantic dinners – it is clearly a busy place but never felt busy to us. I never took photos as they were those couples private moments but I can only praise how beautiful the table and pond is decorated – with floating flowers and candles – romance overload.

Kupa Kupa Barong is famous for its Mango Tree Spa by L’Occitane.

As a treat James & I booked ourselves a couples massage. If you want you can have your massage in some of the tree spa cabin (as shown below). James & I opted to have our massage at the spa itself. The room was beautiful complete with a pond and large open windows where we could hear the rainfall as we drifted into a light massage induced snooze.

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Kupa Kupa Barong – I would recommend it to anyone looking for a romantic getaway. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and hospitable. The hotel had thought of everything, if there was anything we needed it was either in our room and we had missed it or it was delivered immediately.
